Acoustic Testing

Acoustic Testing

Ryedale Testing can also provide you with testing to meet the requirements of Building Regulations Schedule 1 Part E and Approved Document ‘E’.

This is sometimes known as “Pre-Completion Testing” and involves the proving of separating elements (walls and floors) to show they meet the requirements for sound insulation contained in these documents.
Air Tightness Testing

Air Tightness Testing

Ryedale Testing provide a local, quick, accurate, and integrated service… all under one roof! Ryedale Testing is an ATTMA member and use only the highest quality UKAS calibrated instruments.

From April 2006 Part L of the Building Regulations were amended to reflect the Government’s continued commitment to the reduction of green house gases and wasted energy. All new domestic dwellings with just a few exceptions are required to demonstrate an air tightness of not less than 10m³/(h.m²)@ 50 Pascals.
Architectural Services

Architectural Services

We offer an extensive range of Architect’s Services including:

Initial and Detail Designs
Planning and Building Regulation Applications
Specifications
Tenders
Inspection of Works in Progress

This is carried out by Nicholas W Greenhalgh Dip.Arch.RIBA who is a Chartered Architect with over 25 years experience.

Nick has a wide portfolio of projects from small domestic extensions, through one-off houses for individual clients, housing schemes for small developers to multi-million pound projects for national companies and government agencies such as DEFRA and DERA.
Extract Fan Testing

Extract Fan Testing

We offer extract fan testing, either in conjunction with air tightness testing or as an independent service.

Many Building Control Bodies (BCB’s), including NHBC are now requesting commissioning data for extract fans to prove compliance with Building Regulations Approved Document ‘F’ and the Domestic Ventilation Compliance Guide.

This requires, in addition to commissioning details, air flow measurement tests to be executed with UKAS calibrated equipment.
As buildings become more airtight, as a result of legislation, more reliance is placed upon mechanical or passive ventilation to provide a healthy environment within dwellings. Correct ventilation ensures adequate fresh air and minimises heat losses.
SAPs & EPCs

SAPs & EPCs

Any new dwelling, or dwellings created by conversion or change of use are required to have SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) Calculations carried out as a measurable assessment of the building’s energy performance.

These guidelines have been introduced to ensure the U.K complies with E.U guidelines and have been introduced as part L of the National Building Regulations.

Ryedale Testing can provide SAP calculations for submission to Building Control using accredited software provided by Elmhurst Energy at competitive prices.

We undertake to provide clients with ‘peace of mind’ and the confidence that calculations are promptly and professional managed to meet your building deadlines with the minimal of disruption to your project. To that end we offer two levels of service:

Heat Loss Calculations

SAP Calculations for Excessive Glazing (Over 25% of Floor Area)

Applies to extensions where the amount of glazing exceeds 25% of the new floor area:

  • Standard Part L limits glazing to 25% of the extension's floor area.

  • If this is exceeded, a SAP-based ‘glazing area’ calculation is needed.

  • The SAP analysis shows that the extension does not result in worse overall energy performance compared to a compliant one.

  • This is often referred to as a 'notional vs. actual' SAP comparison or 'compensatory' approach (e.g., improving insulation elsewhere to offset the extra glazing).

SAP for Change of Use

SAP Calculations for Conversions (Material Change of Use)

Required when a building is converted into residential units (e.g., barn to home, office to flat):

  • Similar process to new build SAP but with some flexibility.

  • Must demonstrate reasonable improvements in energy performance.

  • Often based on existing building elements, so insulation upgrades and heating system improvements are critical.

  • EPCs are also produced for each new unit.

About us

Ryedale Testing operates nationwide across the UK, offering comprehensive services for air tightness testing, acoustic (sound) testing, SAP calculations, and EPC certificates.

As a UKAS-accredited company, we are equipped to conduct air testing for all building types specified in Building Regulations L1 & L2 and provide sound testing to meet the standards outlined in Building Regulations Part 'E'.

In addition to our core services, we offer extract fan testing, which can be performed either alongside air tightness testing or as a standalone service. Our expertise ensures that all testing is conducted to the highest standards, providing reliable and accurate results.

Our Services Include:

Acoustic Testing

Ryedale Testing offers Pre-Completion Testing to ensure compliance with Building Regulations Schedule 1 Part E and Approved Document ‘E’. This testing evaluates the sound insulation of separating elements like walls and floors to confirm they meet the required standards.

Air Tightness Testing

Ryedale Testing offers a prompt, precise, and comprehensive service with all functions handled in-house. As an ATTMA member, we utilise top-quality UKAS-calibrated instruments. Since April 2006, Part L of the Building Regulations has mandated that new domestic dwellings, with few exceptions, must achieve an air tightness of at least 10m³/(h.m²)@ 50 Pascals to support the reduction of greenhouse gases and energy waste.

Architectural Services

We provide a comprehensive range of architect’s services, including initial and detailed designs, planning and building regulation applications, specifications, tender preparation, and inspection of works in progress.

Extract Fan Testing

We provide extract fan testing, either alongside air tightness testing or as a standalone service. Building Control Bodies, including NHBC, now require commissioning data for extract fans to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations Approved Document ‘F’ and the Domestic Ventilation Compliance Guide. As buildings become more airtight due to legislation, effective mechanical or passive ventilation becomes crucial for maintaining a healthy environment, ensuring adequate fresh air, and reducing heat losses.

SAPs & EPCs

SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) calculations are used in the UK to assess the energy performance and carbon emissions of residential buildings. Different types of SAP calculations are required depending on the nature of the project. Ryedale Testing offers SAP calculations for Building Control submissions using accredited Elmhurst Energy software, providing competitive pricing.

Ryedale Testing experienced and qualified team of Energy Consultants undertake compliance assessments and testing to both the new build and existing property sectors.
