SDX-15 Plant Alarm

SDX-15 Plant Alarm

The SDX-15 Medical Gas Alarm system is a multiplexed solution that utilises the MEDCON data transmission standard, employing a pulse width modulated signal over 2 core inter-panel wiring. It is capable of displaying up to 15 services, each containing up to 4 conditions in addition to a normal state.

Each service can be divided into four individual displays, enabling signals—such as the common alarm output from area alarms—to be relayed to a central point or any location where this information is necessary. Signals from plant machinery or other monitored equipment are transmitted to the system via transmitters strategically located near the equipment. A complete service can be relayed from a single transmitter, or, if needed (such as in the case of remote plant EMS), services can be transmitted from multiple transmitters. The services are displayed at each panel as required, with a rotary switch for selecting each service within the panel. Five long-life 10 x 20 mm block LEDs per service indicate the service conditions through a replaceable lens situated behind a wipe-clean membrane.

When an alarm condition arises, the corresponding alarm indicator will flash, and the audible alarm will sound if activated by a 4-way DIL switch located on the panel for that specific service. Engaging the Mute switch on a repeater panel will silence the alarm on that panel. Similarly, operating the Mute switch on the central panel will silence the alarm from the central unit and change the flashing alerts to a steady light on all panels (the audible alert on repeaters will remain unaffected). If the alarm condition persists, the audible alert will reactivate, necessitating a repeat of the mute action. In scenarios where an alarm condition must be sustained for an extended duration, such as during pipeline maintenance, the re-trigger can be halted by silencing the audible with the Lockout button within the panel. The audible alert will not reactivate for that specific condition of service until it has returned to normal, and then re-entered an alarm state. A volume control is conveniently located within the panel. A loudspeaker is used for the audible alert instead of a buzzer, providing a softer tone that effectively draws attention to the alarm while being tolerable for staff engaged in other tasks. Remote audible and muting units are also available for use in areas where full display is unnecessary or where access to the panel is impractical.

Plant to Alarm

Plant to Alarm

The Plant To Alarm links to the SDX-15 Alarm system via 2-core data bus cable. The Transmitter accepts 4no input signals, wired from a single gas, via a 5-core cable (4no switched conditions and 1no Common). The input signals are typically monitored for integrity via an end-of-line termination board (known as a TB4 PCB).

Medcon RTX1

Medcon RTX1

The RTX1-SDX transmitter offers a reliable connection to the SDX-15 Alarm system through a robust 2-core data bus cable.

This transmitter is designed to be mounted directly within or adjacent to the gas source for optimal performance.

It features 4 input signals that are wired directly from the plant or manifold, employing failsafe logic—where an open contact indicates a fault (i.e. NO line monitoring on TB4 PCBs).

Input connections consist of a 5-core cable, accommodating 4 switched conditions along with 1 common line.

Internal ITX

Internal ITX

The SDX-ITX transmitter is situated within an SDX-15 Plant Alarm, positioned close to the gases being monitored for optimal accuracy.

Four input signals are connected from each gas source (either plant or manifold) using an end-of-line termination board, referred to as a TB4 PCB.

Each gas requires up to a 5-core cable (four switched conditions and one common), allowing for the integration of up to four gases through a single SDX-ITX transmitter.

Remote RTX

Remote RTX

The SDX-RTX transmitter connects seamlessly to the SDX-15 Alarm system using a 2-core data bus cable.

Four input signals can be wired from each gas source (either plant or manifold) through an end-of-line termination board, referred to as a TB4 PCB (optional).

Each gas necessitates a cable with up to five cores (four for switched conditions and one for Common), allowing for a maximum of four gases to be inputted through a single SDX-RTX unit.
