ATEX Two Way Radios

ATEX Two Way Radios

ATEX approved two way radio equipment meets the European Directive 94/9/EC, and provides a safe solution to radio communications for potentially explosive atmospheres.

ATEX radios may be coloured blue and marked with an ‘EX’ symbol indicating ATEX certification. ATEX approved radios are manufactured to very stringent requirements and high manufacturing standards to reduce or eliminate any risk of generating the tiniest spark as well as heat produced by the device. Able to withstand explosive atmospheres, such as mines and other potentially explosive or hazardous areas. When working in these sensitive environments, often exposed to oil and gas, any device or action that emits sparks or heat could cause a dangerous chemical reaction. From the radio casing to batteries, everything has to be constructed for safety, AND only ATEX approved accessories must be used with the correct radio. ATEX radios operate at a lower output power and are normally IP67 compliant to protect them from dust and allowing immersion in water.

The ATEX radio certification indicates that a radio is built to withstand explosive atmospheres, such as mines and other hazardous areas. When working in these sensitive environments, often exposed to oil and gases, any device or action that emits or cause, sparks or heat could cause a dangerous chemical reaction. This is why ATEX radios are particularly relevant within the process & petrochemical industries, and used in 'confined spaces'; often simply referred to as 'confined space radios'.

IP / WLAN Advanced Radio

IP / WLAN Advanced Radio

A new innovative IP advanced (Licence-Free) radio system provides the ability to contact any member of your staff at any time utilising an existing or new IP/Wireless LAN network. The WLAN based system offers a scalable license-free communication system using standard wireless networking products infrastructure, infrastructures that in many cases, may already be in place. ….it literally uses the same technology we use to operate our tablets, mobile phones or PC’s!! The system utilises IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n & encrypted communication provided by the WPA-PSK and WPA-PSK2 wireless security protocols.

The system is particularly suitable for:

Hotels and resorts - Shopping centres and department stores - Restaurants / catering - Factories - Hospitals - Tunnels and underground buildings - Historic Buildings and museums - Private communications onboard vessels...
PMR446 (Licence Exempt)

PMR446 (Licence Exempt)

PMR 446 is a handportable short range voice only communication system, which provides a basic radio two way radio service for both business and non-business users. It is for providing communication over short distances. Only speech transmissions can be made. The PMR 446 service is licence exempt; users do not require a licence to use PMR 446 radios, provided the equipment complies with ETS 300 296. I.e. the radio equipment must be handportable, have an integral antenna, and have a maximum ERP (transmitted power) of 500 mW. There are eight 12.5 kHz simplex frequencies which can be used anywhere in the United Kingdom. The frequencies have been harmonised (but not necessarily authorised) for use across Europe. Before using PMR 446 radios outside the United Kingdom, users should check that the relevant administration, details of the progress made by CEPT member countries in implementing PMR 446 can be obtained from the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO). Users who fail to do this and use their radios overseas, may break the laws of the country concerned, run the risk of prosecution and the confiscation of equipment. PMR446 frequencies are all shared and users may, under local heavy use conditions, experience interference and channel sharing problems. This may be reduced by changing frequency and/or CTCSS tone and/or DCS code. As a licence exempt service, PMR 446 is unprotected and Ofcom will not become involved in interference or channel sharing disputes between users. PMR 446 radio equipment must use only the dedicated frequencies. Radio equipment which can operate on any other frequency must not be used for the PMR 446 service. - Ofcom (RA357, Nov 1999).

"PMR 446 is not suitable for safety of life use or for users who need to have guaranteed access to frequencies at particular locations and times."
