Heat Treatment & Crankpin Annealing
Crankshafts are often subjected to increased hardness and bending (runout) due to high heat exposure and rapid cooling following a failure. This process frequently leads to conditions that exceed OEM tolerance limits, resulting in significant stress on the component.
At Royce Onsite Machining, we employ specialised ceramic blankets to carry out controlled crankpin annealing—a precise heat treatment method aimed at decreasing both hardness and runout. When used alongside our advanced precision machining services, this technique effectively restores crankshafts to meet OEM specifications.
Our annealing process can lower crankpin hardness by up to 300 HB, effectively mitigating harmful excess hardness and considerably enhancing the longevity of your crankshaft.
