Sounding Cock
A marine sounding cock is a compact manually operated valve installed in tanks aboard a ship. It is used to measure (or “sound”) the liquid level—such as fuel oil, fresh water, ballast, or sludge—by allowing a small sample to be drawn, or by inserting a sounding tape or rod.
Purpose of a Sounding Cock
- Enables safe and controlled manual inspection of tank contents
- Provides a method for sampling the tank's liquid at its lowest point
- Frequently utilised in:
- Fuel oil service and settling tanks
- Lubricating oil tanks
- Ballast and freshwater tanks
- Bilge and sludge tanks
We offer a range of Sounding Cock Valves from several leading manufacturers. Please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Altecnic / Caleffi 311 Series Safety Relief Valve 3/4" x 3/4" F x F 6 Bar - 311560
The Altecnic / Caleffi 311 Safety Valve - 311560 is specifically designed for use in domestic hot water systems, providing essential protection for hot water cylinders, as well as in heating systems to safeguard boilers and other components. This valve is chosen based on the required set pressure. When system pressure increases and reaches the discharge threshold, the valve opens, releasing excess pressure to the atmosphere. This crucial function prevents the pressure from escalating to dangerous levels within the system, ensuring the safety of the boiler, hot water storage cylinder, and any personnel nearby.

Altecnic / Caleffi 309 Series Pressure & Temperature Relief Valve 3/4" 90°C 7 Bar - 309570CST
The Altecnic / Caleffi 309 Pressure & Temperature Relief Valve - 309570CST is designed to effectively regulate and limit the temperature and pressure of hot water in domestic storage heaters. By preventing the water from exceeding 100°C and the formation of steam, this valve ensures safety and efficiency. Once the set parameters are reached, the valve expels an adequate amount of water into the atmosphere, allowing the temperature and pressure to return to safe operating limits. The mechanism of the valve operates as follows: - **Temperature Control**: The thermostat compound within the temperature sensor, which is submerged in hot water, expands as the temperature rises. This expansion drives a thrust pin that acts on the obturator, thereby opening the valve. The valve is calibrated to open when the temperature exceeds 90°C. - **Pressure Control**: When the pressure reaches the predetermined setting, the obturator, which is countered by a set spring, lifts and fully opens the outlet. The pressure setting is selected based on the maximum allowable pressure within the system. As temperature and pressure decrease, the valve automatically re-closes within the specified tolerances.
