Business Is a Riot: The Importance of Backing Up and Being Sure

Unless you’ve been living under the world’s largest rock, those of you here in the UK will have been made aware of will have been directly or indirectly impacted by the UK riots of the last week.

For the most part, these acts of violence, and some say, thuggery, are for the most part seemingly not attached to any particular meaning specifically, but that is a debate for another day.

The devastation caused by Monday’s riots in London and Tuesday’s in Manchester, both in which Pearl Scan are based, has been immeasurable for some people and organisations.

The likes of the Sony distribution center in London burning down has more far reaching consequences than losing a great deal of stock. Within those walls were the products of companies who were independent and smaller spin-offs of Sony themselves that simply do not have the resources to replace what has been lost. Mainstream artists such as Adele will suffer as well as more independent artists including Jarvis Cocker.

What these riots have done that we can all relate to is humble each and every one of us and brought us to the same level whether we are a music giant such as Sony or an independent retailer and many are left picking up the pieces strewn much further than they ever imagined.

This is where the importance of keeping things backed up, stored in more than one place and the much debated Cloud technology come into place. We’re sure many, many businesses will have lost important records in the riots and fires, whether on paper or stored on computers that were not appropriately backed up.

For many, thousands of documents may have been lost that can simply never be replaced. Businesses, now more than ever, should consider the security of their important documents and the way they are handled as this can be the be-all and end-all of any business.

We live in increasingly turbulent times where things such as the London and Manchester riots can happen just as easily again. This is neither the time, nor the place to discuss the greater impact or the meaning behind these events, but it’s certainly important to keep in mind that the security of your important files can be just as important as your stock.
