Castle and Pryor Break Out Bricks from a High-Temperature Kiln
Castle & Pryor’s team of skilled operatives tackled the challenging task of breaking out refractory bricks from a huge kiln used to burn medical waste down to ash.
Kilns like these operate at extreme temperatures (1000–1800°C). Over time, the constant heating and cooling cycles cause the bricks to expand, contract, and eventually crack or disintegrate.
Even high-quality refractory materials weaken after repeated firing cycles, reducing their thermal resistance and energy efficiency.
That’s why these bricks are replaced annually — to keep the kiln running safely and efficiently. To complete the job safely and effectively, Castle & Pryor deployed our Brokk 70 robotic demolition machine — small, compact, and incredibly powerful.
Operated remotely, it allows our team to stay at a safe distance while delivering precise and efficient brick removal.
