Durable High-Performance Epoxy Flooring for the Automotive Industry - Advanced Auto Case Study

Polycote UK has successfully completed a high-specification flooring installation at the Advanced Auto workshop, delivering a durable, visually striking and highly functional epoxy resin floor system tailored to the demands of a busy automotive environment.

Covering a total of 243 m², the project was executed over a four-day programme and included mechanical surface preparation, localised repairs, multi-colour epoxy application, bespoke linemarking and reinstatement of expansion joints — all designed to enhance both safety and operational efficiency for the client.

Meeting the Demands of a High-Traffic Workshop

Advanced Auto required a flooring solution that would:

•Improve the overall appearance of the workshop floor

•Deliver a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surface

•Provide clearly defined work bays in contrasting colours

•Include high-visibility safety markings and chevrons

•Ensure long-term flexibility through expansion joint reinstatement

To meet these requirements, Polycote installed its Flortex Professional 100% Solids Epoxy Resin system, finished in Mid Grey with Dark Grey workshop bays and bright Yellow linemarking. The complete installation also involved rigorous surface preparation and joint sealing to deliver a seamless and robust finish.

Meticulous Installation Programme

Polycote’s installation team followed a carefully sequenced plan:

•Day 1: Diamond grinding and vacuum surface preparation, followed by primer application.

•Day 2: Localised repairs and topcoat application in Mid Grey and Dark Grey to define work bays.

•Day 3: Precision linemarking around bays using specialised EPS Linemarker products.

•Day 4: Installation of chevrons in the MOT bay and expansion joint fill.

Challenges and Precision Execution

The project presented logistical challenges due to a mix of fixed and movable machinery within the workshop, requiring close coordination and careful sequencing of work to maintain quality and efficiency. In addition, the significant linemarking scope demanded meticulous planning and curing time to achieve crisp, long-lasting visual definition.
