Adey Steel: Engineering the Future of the UK Energy Sector
Adey Steel has established itself as a leading partner for engineering contractors across the UK’s energy sector, delivering precision-fabricated steel solutions that meet the demands of safety-critical projects. With experience spanning biomass, nuclear, renewable, and waste-to-energy sectors, the company is helping to shape the infrastructure needed for a sustainable energy future.
Combining in-house structural design, 3D detailing, advanced fabrication, and project management expertise, Adey Steel provides tailored solutions that consistently exceed industry expectations. From accessways and pipe bridges to substation gantries and nuclear transport beams, the company’s work underpins some of the most ambitious energy projects in the UK.
Biomass Tube Feeders
Adey Steel has developed a specialist capability in the fabrication of tube feeders for biomass facilities. These large-scale units, reaching up to 11 metres in length, are designed for the high-volume handling of woodchip materials from storage silos.
Each assembly incorporates independently rotating elements that extract and transfer fuel efficiently, while robust protective coatings ensure durability in challenging operational environments. This work demonstrates Adey Steel’s ability to deliver precision-engineered solutions that optimise renewable energy operations.
SmartValve Structures
In partnership with Kelvin Power Structures, Adey Steel contributed to the development of SmartValve structures for the National Grid, a pioneering project addressing power distribution bottlenecks across northern England.
Supplying hundreds of tonnes of steelwork, including frames, gantries, and supports, Adey Steel delivered precision-fabricated components to substations in Carlisle, Preston, and Stockton-on-Tees. The structures enable more efficient routing of renewable energy, reflecting the company’s expertise in high-value steelwork for cutting-edge energy infrastructure.
Tilbury Substation Gantries
Working with Swithland Power, Adey Steel fabricated and delivered gantries for the Tilbury Substation, supporting high-voltage transmission equipment.
The structures were fully trial-built before delivery, ensuring accurate fitment, streamlined installation, and long-term reliability in demanding outdoor conditions. Adey Steel’s approach demonstrates a focus on quality, risk reduction, and operational efficiency, core values for all its safety-critical projects.
Hinkley Point C
Adey Steel’s expertise in the nuclear sector was showcased through its work on Hinkley Point C. The company fabricated, tested, and delivered heavy-duty transport beams essential for construction and logistical operations on this landmark project.
All components underwent rigorous inspection and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with stringent industry standards. Adey Steel’s delivery exemplifies its capability to manage complex, high-value steelwork for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Shaping the UK’s Energy Infrastructure
Adey Steel’s work across diverse energy projects highlights the company’s commitment to precision, innovation, and sector-specific expertise. By combining technical excellence with practical engineering knowledge, the company is helping deliver infrastructure that supports the UK’s transition to low-carbon and sustainable energy.
From renewables to nuclear, Adey Steel continues to set the standard for safety-critical steel fabrication, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
