Bright and Engaging Outdoor Spaces for Slated Row School

Sovereign is proud to have designed and delivered a range of vibrant new outdoor spaces for the children at Slated Row School in Milton Keynes, creating engaging environments that support play, learning, and development.

With a clear commitment to strengthening its Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, Slated Row embarked on a project to develop outdoor environments that more effectively meet the diverse needs of its students. Recognising the vital role that well-designed outdoor spaces play in supporting learning, wellbeing, and development, the school aimed to create areas that are both functional and inspiring. Building on a strong track record of successful collaboration, and supported by additional funding, Sovereign was chosen to lead the transformation.

The redesigned outdoor areas now feature a variety of dynamic and stimulating installations, carefully selected to support a wide range of abilities and needs. Among the standout additions is a vibrant rainbow Daily Mile track, designed to encourage regular movement in a fun and visually engaging way. A custom-built timber lodge, paired with a multicoloured polycarbonate-roof pergola, to provide a flexible space for both relaxation and structured activities, offering shelter from the elements while maintaining a bright and inviting atmosphere. Further enhancing the sensory experience, features such as a hammock, sensory panel, and a sensory tunnel provide opportunities for calming and play.

Together, these new outdoor features create a rich, inclusive outdoor environment that supports students’ physical, emotional, and sensory development, ensuring that every child can benefit from a space designed with their needs at its heart.
