Two Decades of Secure School Fencing Partnership

Callis Grange Nursery and Infant School in Broadstairs, Kent, has benefited from more than two decades of reliable perimeter protection through its long-standing partnership with leading school fencing specialists, Jacksons Fencing.

The project demonstrates how high quality fencing solutions can provide lasting value while supporting pupil safety and site security.

The relationship began in 2004 when the school sought a fencing solution to create safe demarcation between different areas of the school grounds while maintaining an attractive, child-friendly environment. Following a detailed assessment, anti-trap bow top railings were installed around key areas of the site.

Selected with pupil safety as the primary consideration, the bow top fencing provided a secure boundary without sharp edges, while the anti-trap design helped minimise the risk of children becoming trapped. The installation offered an effective balance between safety, security, and visibility, making it particularly suitable for a nursery and infant school setting.

As the school evolved, additional safeguarding measures were required to strengthen perimeter security and access control. While the original fencing continued to perform exceptionally well, the school identified an opportunity to improve protection through the replacement of a section of lower fencing and the installation of a new access gate.

Building on the success of the original project, a further 46 metres of 1.8m high anti-trap bow top railings and a matching double leaf gate were manufactured, supplied, and installed by Jacksons. Produced from premium tubular steel and finished in a durable green powder coating, the new fencing was carefully colour matched to the existing installation to ensure a consistent appearance throughout the site.

The upgraded fencing now provides enhanced safeguarding by separating pupils from vehicle areas and strengthening access control. Staff are able to monitor visitors entering the grounds while restricting access until entry is authorised remotely, creating a safer environment for both pupils and staff.

The project also highlights the long-term durability of the school's fencing infrastructure. The original bow top railings installed in 2004 remain in service today, while entrance and rear access gates installed in 2007 continue to provide secure access to the site. Despite years of daily use and exposure to the coastal Kent climate, the fencing systems continue to perform effectively.
