Evacusafe Director’s 90 Kilometre Walk in Aid of Breast Cancer Charity

03 April 2014

On 24th April 2014 Paul Mitchell, Director of Evacusafe, and Jim Anthony from Serco, will set off on a self-supported 90 kilometre walk through Hampshire and Berkshire to raise money for Breast Cancer UK.

Their walk will encompass the Test Way and the Wayfarers Walk, taking them from Stockbridge in Hampshire to Basingstoke over a period of four days.

During their journey the pair will be fully self-supported, which means they will be ‘roughing it’ and spending their nights out in the open and exposed to nature’s elements.
They will carry with them four days worth of food and drink as well as all the required camping support.  There will be no luxuries what so ever, absolutely no posh hotels, restaurants or cafes along the route.

The Test Way is a footpath, 79 kilometres in length, which runs from Walbury Hill in West Berkshire to Eling in Hampshire.  The Wayfarers Walk is a long-distance footpath, which extends 114 kilometres between the coast, starting near Portsmouth and finishing in Inkpen Beacon just across the Berkshire border.

Both routes are popular with hikers, however it is not usual for hikers to travel fully self-supported and sleep in tents along the routes.

Months of planning and preparation have gone into the walk.  Mr Mitchell says “As a company Evacusafe like to do their bit when it comes to raising money for charity.

On a personal level I thrive on the sense of adventure that a task like this poses.  I thought it was a great idea to combine the two and began to plan the 90k walk in aid of Breast Cancer UK.

Last year I ran the London 10k in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity and it was a most satisfying experience being able to help others by raising money for such a great cause”.

The walk will partly follow the course of the River Test and take the pair through an array of terrain from meadows, tidal marshes, riverbanks, and peaceful woodland to steep hills with exhilarating views.  At times the route will pass through some of Hampshire’s most picturesque villages.

Donations are welcomed from anybody and the Company asks for everyone to get involved with the sponsorship so that they can raise as much money as possible for the charity.

Breast Cancer UK is a great cause, so please donate as generously as you are able too.  Every donation, big or small, will be absolutely appreciated.

A donation page has been set up on the Just Giving website, which makes donating extremely simple, fast and totally secure.  Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

There is no cost for sending the text and every penny that you donate goes straight to the charity.  Example text ‘EVAC50 £10’.
