Addagrips' Addaset gives modern edge to Tallaght Zip

29 April 2009

South Dublin County Councils' multi-million pound urban regeneration included the Tallaght Zip project, a 700 metre landscape architecture project connecting the old Tallaght Village to the newly developed commercial district.

As part of the scheme, Addagrip’s resin bound surface Addaset  and Addaset Tree Pit have been specified to provide an attractive and hardwearing surface using natural and recycled aggregates and glass.

The aim of the project was to connect the two disparate parts of the suburb by a long linear site comprising new paving, kerbing, street furniture, tree planting and resin surfaces. SAP Landscapes laid 250m² of Addaset, bound with 6mm Cobalt Blue recycled glass between the pavement area and planting area to symbolise a stream connecting the Tallaght Village to the central hub where ‘The Square’ shopping centre, office developments and the Luas train terminal are situated.

Commenting on the project Aaron O’Reilly, Business Development Manager for SAP Landscapes said, “The main challenge of this project was to carry out construction in a live traffic environment. Addaset Tree Pit, a porous bonded surface, was used instead of a traditional street grill as it prevents trip hazards to pedestrians. The Addaset with Cobalt Blue recycled glass works well with the crisp lines of the paving and gives a modern edge to the wall of planting that runs parallel to the pavement.”

Addaset Tree Pit with Rhine Gold aggregate was specified to provide attractive and neat tree pits for a quality street landscaping solution that marks the boundary of the pedestrian zone and the cycle zone. Addagrip Tree Pit is a porous bonded surface which allows air and water to permeate down to the root system of the trees without the inconvenience of escaping aggregate. The Addagrip Tree Pit surface can be cleaned by pavement sweeping vehicles preventing the problem of treepits becoming a trap for litter.

The Addaset resin bound surfacing system provides an attractive, porous and hard wearing surface using a range of natural and recycled aggregates. The finished surface provides a bound paving system that is flexible and resistant to cracking.
