Apply Tape Like a Pro with Application Ancillaries

02 June 2023

Heskins produces industrial floor tape that is applied as a surface application, emphasising the importance of proper preparation. A stable and treated surface is crucial for long-term bonding of the anti-slip tape.

Ensuring cleanliness is essential for all surfaces, as any grease or residues can compromise the tape's durability. While some recommend industrial degreasers, they leave behind a film that negatively affects the adhesive. Heskins recommends their H3508 surface cleaner, a residue-free pure alcohol that effectively removes contaminants. Continuous wipes are advised for optimal cleaning.

Porous external surfaces like wood, concrete, or stone should be sealed with Heskins' H3506 Primer to prevent water penetration. This primer rapidly seals the surface, evaporates quickly, and leaves a slightly tacky surface with enhanced energy. It can be easily applied with a paint brush and is available in 1L and 0.5L containers, sealing approximately 5m² per litre.

For low energy surfaces that hinder adhesive bonding, Heskins offers the H3510 Keying Agent, which increases surface energy levels without causing damage. A small amount of the agent is applied before the anti-slip tape.
To enhance durability, Heskins recommends using the H3502 Edge Fix to bond the edges of the tape, providing additional support and protection. The rubber resin in the product contracts when exposed to the atmosphere, creating a secure seal.

Applying pressure is crucial for effective bonding, and Heskins suggests using their pressure roller tool to ensure a strong grip. The H3406 Conformable anti-slip tape, designed for irregular surfaces, can be firmly pressed into place using a rubber mallet to prevent lifting.

By following these guidelines and utilising the recommended tools, Heskins' industrial floor tape can be applied effectively with long-lasting performance.
