New Life for Stanley Deason Leisure Centre as Upgraded Artificial Pitch Opens

Notts Sport is delighted to announce the completion of a major sports facility upgrade at Stanley Deason Leisure Centre in East Brighton, delivered in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, Freedom Leisure, and Hunts Contractors Ltd.

The £400,000 project has seen the complete replacement of the centre’s existing all-weather surface with a brand new sand-dressed synthetic pitch, suitable for both hockey and football. The surrounding infrastructure has also been significantly improved, with new fencing, upgraded goals, and refurbished tarmac surrounds.

Completed in just ten weeks, the works form part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s 10-year Sports Facility Investment Plan, which aims to modernise key sports venues across the city. The new pitch is now open and available for booking by local schools, colleges, sports clubs, and community organisations.

In line with the Council’s sustainability commitments, 100% of the old surface and shock-pad were recycled, minimising waste and environmental impact.

Tom Walton, Head of Multi-Sport at Notts Sport commented:

“We’re incredibly proud to have supported Brighton & Hove City Council in delivering this important upgrade. The Stanley Deason Leisure Centre is a vital community hub, and the new pitch provides a high-quality playing surface for everyone — from school groups to competitive teams.”

The project exemplifies Notts Sport’s expertise in managing and supporting community sports facility developments nationwide. By delivering on time, on budget, and with sustainability at its core, the Stanley Deason project stands as a model for how public-sector investment can rejuvenate local sport.
