Automating Production Line 3 at One of the World's Oldest Distilleries

G&J Distillers, part of Quintessential Brands and one of the oldest distilleries in the world at 260 years old, worked with Granta Automation to automate palletising on Line 3 with minimal disruption to production.

G&J Distillers, part of Quintessential Brands and, at around 260 years old, one of the oldest distilleries in the world, wanted to automate palletising on one of its production lines without lengthy disruption to an already busy site.

Working with Granta Automation, the business had a robotic palletiser installed, uncrated and picking its first case in well under 48 hours from arrival - a pace Group Projects Manager Steve Hellam has pointed to as a standout part of the project.

For a distillery balancing heritage production methods with modern efficiency demands, minimising downtime during installation was just as important as the long-term benefits of automation. A fast, well-planned installation meant Line 3 was back up and running with minimal impact on output.

The project demonstrates how robotic palletising can be introduced into long-established production sites without the extended disruption manufacturers often fear. Granta Automation designs and installs robotic palletising systems for drinks producers across the UK. Visit our website or contact us today.
