The latest update, BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, was published on 15 April 2026 and introduces changes in areas including stationary secondary batteries, Power over Ethernet (PoE), functional earthing and equipotential bonding for ICT systems, and medical locations.

The previous version remains valid during a six-month transition period, with withdrawal scheduled for 15 October 2026.

Recognising different wiring conventions remains important when working on existing installations, particularly where older and newer wiring may be present together. Colour identification should, of course, never replace appropriate testing and safe isolation procedures.
