CDM Principal Designer

CDM Principal Designer

The appointment of a Principal Designer is mandatory when multiple contractors are involved in construction work, as outlined by the CDM 2015 Regulations (5).

The Principal Designer's primary responsibility is to coordinate the design efforts of the project team, ensuring that significant and foreseeable risks are effectively managed throughout the design process.

The Principal Designer must meticulously plan, manage, and monitor the pre-construction phase, coordinating health and safety matters to ensure that the project is executed, so far as is reasonably practicable, without any risks to health and safety.
ETH Safety will promote effective communication and collaboration among project team members, as well as coordinate the preparation of the health and safety file.

For clients, the timely appointment of the Principal Designer is essential for efficient planning and establishing robust management arrangements from the outset.
