Case Studies: Leicester General Hospital

Leicester General Hospital, situated on the outskirts of Leicester and affectionately known as the ‘Palace on the Hill’ by the local community, serves as the headquarters for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Recently, the education department was seeking a replacement platform lift but faced challenges in finding a company capable of supplying and installing a lift that would fit within the limited space available. Every firm that visited to provide a quotation simply did not have a suitable lift.

The Motala 2000 Cabin Platform Lift is a self-supporting platform lift housed within its own steel-clad or glazed structure, which includes the drive system. It operates on single-phase 240v power and eliminates the need for an overhead machinery room or extensive pit beneath the unit. As this model features its own freestanding shaft and adheres to UK and EC Directives regarding safety, fire, and machinery, it necessitates minimal building work. This makes it an ideal, cost-effective solution for architects and specifiers alike. The units are widely endorsed by Local Authority Access Officers, ensuring compliance and accessibility.

Case Studies: Halfpenny Green Vineyards

Case Studies: Halfpenny Green Vineyards

Thirty years ago, farmer Martin Vickers envisioned establishing a vineyard that would rival those found on the continent. Today, at Halfpenny Green Vineyards, located just a few miles west of Dudley, 30 acres of meticulously managed vines thrive under Martin's care, producing award-winning wines crafted by his son, Clive. As a family-run business, the renowned shop, restaurant, deli, and tea room are operated by Clive’s wife, Lisa, offering visitors a delightful day out.

Invalifts recommended the MC2000 platform lift featuring an open-through configuration. The standard-sized unit, measuring 1250mm x 1590mm, complies fully with Part M of the Building Regulations and the Equality Act. To maximise natural light within the shop, a partially glazed shaft and glazed doors were provided. A hidden door closer was installed on the ground floor door leading into the existing shop to accommodate a retained beam; a standard closer would have obstructed this beam. The entire unit was mounted directly onto the concrete floor, and a small chequer plate ramp was fitted at the lower ground floor door in place of the traditional 60mm pit. The complete installation was accomplished in just three days.

Case Studies: Carters Furniture Store

Carters Furniture store in Kidderminster is a long established company selling furniture and interior items from a large showroom.

Invalifts were asked to see if they could find an appropriate space in the building where a disabled access lift could be installed. After discussions an old goods lift shaft was identified as having more than enough space available. The Motala 2000 Platform Lift only needed a space of 1250mm x 1560mm in order to give a fully compliant wheelchair access lift. The lift had to positioned to one side of the existing shaft as there was a beam at the top floor that cut across the space.

Case Studies: Dyfi Osprey Project

The Dyfi Osprey Project is a flagship initiative of the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, situated on the Cors Dyfi Reserve near Machynlleth on the picturesque west coast of mid Wales. Launched in January 2009, the project aims to support and conserve the osprey population in Wales. Visitors can enjoy the opportunity to observe these rare birds in their natural habitat at the onsite visitor centre.

Invalifts was selected to supply and install the lift, with their MC2000 Platform Lift featuring a glazed shaft at the upper level to maximise natural light and provide stunning views of the surrounding scenery. Invalifts expertly co-ordinated the lift installation with the centre to ensure it was completed prior to the return of the ospreys.

Case Studies: Loughborough University

Case Studies: Loughborough University

As one of the top 15 universities in the UK, the esteemed Loughborough University, located in the heart of the country, recently approached Invalifts for assistance with a new extension for their Science Department. They required a solution that would ensure easy accessibility for all staff and students.

The MC2000 lift was selected as it is a space-efficient platform lift that strikes the ideal balance between low running costs, reliability, and superior engineering. This two-floor lift was customised in a specific RAL colour to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding interior design. To further enhance the lift's aesthetics and maximise natural light within the staircase area, it was decided to incorporate glazing on one side of the lift shaft and install doors fitted with glazed panels.
