6 Hour Emergency First Aid in the Workplace (EFAW)

Where an employer’s assessment of First Aid needs identifies that a First Aider is not necessary, the minimum requirement is to appoint a person to take charge of first aid arrangements and/or have trained personel in the HSE Recognised 6 hour Emergency First Aid in the Workplace (EFAW).

This 6 contact hour course meets the requirements for an Emergency First Aider as specified in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and is valid for three years. This course is primarily aimed at smaller workplaces that present potentially fewer health and safety risks, where a nominated individual is required to take charge in the event of illness or accident or that nominated person might assist the First Aider. The fully qualified First Aiders in larger organisations can also benefit from additional support from these other First Aiders. This is especially relevant where the workplace may consist of many floors, cover a large site or where work is operated in shift patterns.

AED (Defibrillator) Training

AED (Defibrillator) Training

Over 700,000 people die from cardiac arrests in Europe each year, 30,000 in the UK each year. The majority might be saved if their heart could be defibrillated (shocked back into rhythm) within five minutes.

An Automated External Defibrillator − with a trained operator − at the site of a sudden cardiac arrest can improve the chance of survival from 5% to as much as 80%. (A recent AED training scheme introduced to the staff at Gatwick airport has seen the survival rates of cardiac arrest victims increase from about 3% to 84%).

Defibrillation therefore, is considered the most definitive treatment for casualties suffering from a cardiac arrest − in fact, for the pulseless adult casualty, chances of a sudden cardiac arrest patient surviving without an early electrical counter-shock are less than 1%.

With the advent of AED’s (Automated External Defibrillators), this lifesaving technology can be placed in the hands of corporate and industrial responders.
Health & Safety in the Workplace

Health & Safety in the Workplace

Back problems account for a third all of worker absences in the UK. Training your staff to handle objects and people safely can reduce the risk of injury to your staff and can reduce your company’s insurance costs in the long term.

These regulations apply to any task that involves moving a load manually, and sets out the responsibilities that are placed on both the employer and employee. In short they are;

Avoid as far as possible, the need for manual handling operations, which involve the potential for risk of injury.
Mechanise any tasks to prevent manual handling.
Assess any hazardous manual handling operations that cannot be avoided. The assessment should include consideration of four main areas; Task, load, the individuals capacity and environment in which the task is being carried out.
Reduce the risk of injury resulting from manual handling as far as possible.
Inform and train employees with regard to the risks involved in manual handling operations

Whilst the legislation requires employers to provide manual handling training it also includes a requirement to carry out manual handling risk assessments relevant to the workplace. For an additional cost MEDROCK Training can also carry out these Risk Assessments on your behalf.

Our trainer is registered as a Manual Handling Instructor with The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
Fire Risk Assessments

Fire Risk Assessments

The Fire Regulatory Reform Order places a responsibility on the building custodian to have in place a Fire Risk Assessment which has been completed by a ‘competent’ person. This Risk Assessment must be produced when required by a Fire Officer or any Council Fire Inspector.

This person may be called upon to demonstrate why they are regarded as a competent and we strongly recommend that those who compile and authorise such reports take steps to ensure due diligence and satisfy themselves that they are indeed competent.

We can provide the services of a 27 year served Firefighter to either assist or compile a Fire Risk Assessment on your behalf. For Further advice please call
