L-Sealers

So-called because of their ‘L’ shaped sealing frame, L-sealers use centre-folded polyolefin shrink film - one layer of film sitting above and one beneath - to wrap varied products. The sealing frame comes down around the pack to meet both film layers and seal two sides, creating a bag. Then as the products progress through the machine, the sealing frame will come down to bag the next product in the stream and in doing so will seal the remaining side and last edge of the previous pack. The heat shrink tunnel will then expel air from the formed bag to create the tightly-shrunk finish required for each pack. Typically L-sealers are used for presentation or display applications and retail packs where it is vital that products have an aesthetically pleasing finish that stands out from competitor products.
Our range of L-sealers - which are available in both semi and fully automatic models - produce a high-quality result that is ideal for retail environments or multi-packs where the presentation of the product is critical. All of our L-sealer machines are designed to provide the very best results from polyolefin shrink film.

Side Sealers

Side sealers operate using centre-folded shrink film opened up with the product sat inside, surrounded by three open sides. The machine sealing bar seals the sides which then creates a ‘tube’ of film around the product. As the products then progress through the machine, the back of the pack is ‘cross-sealed’ through the action of the sealing bar coming down to separate one product from the next. Side sealers deliver a totally enclosed pack and usually give a tighter bag than ‘L’ sealers. They also operate at faster speeds than most other shrink wrapping models. A key feature of side sealers is their ability to wrap products of unlimited lengths, unrestricted to the frame size of the sealer.

Our range of premium high-speed side sealers are manufactured in Germany by the world-leading automation specialists Hugo Beck, for whom we are the only UK distributor. They have been designed to pack a wide variety of unlimited length products, using plastic shrink film including polyolefin and polythene, with impressive speeds and absolute reliability. These machines are designed to achieve high production output, even with frequent format changes and over a wide range of product sizes.

Sleeve Wrappers

Our machinery portfolio features a range of sleeve wrappers from manual through to high-speed automatic models suited to just about any transit packing application. Inline, side feed and collation specifications are available to cater for almost all products, speed requirements and factory layouts possible.

Sleeve sealers operate by using two single-wound shrink film reels, one sat above and one sat below the product to be wrapped. The machine seals the film layers together on each side, effectively creating a ‘sleeve’ with two open ends, hence the machine’s name. The packs then enter a shrink tunnel which applies heat to conform the film to she shape of the product within. Sleeve sealers can deliver totally enclosed packs or packs with bullseye holes at either end by choosing a narrower or wider polythene shrink film respectively.

For particularly high volume applications our flighted bar wrappers offer a sealing-jaw free mechanism for enhanced speeds requiring minimal maintenance.

Stainless Steel Dairy Systems

With approximately 15 billion litres of milk produced annually in the UK, the commercial dairy industry is relentlessly high demand and high volume. Dairy wrapping machinery must provide speed, precision, high capacity and long-term reliability. Integration with high speed fillers, capping machines, bottle turners, labellers and diverters can also come into play in dairy projects.

Our range of dairy shrink wrappers represent the creme de la creme of beverage automation. Manufactured from food-quality stainless steel, and built for total reliability, low maintenance and long-term durability, the machines in this range can achieve significant speeds of up to 200 wrapped bottles per minute. Wide Shrink Wrap Machines

Shrink Tunnels

Shrink tunnels, either double or single chamber, are positioned after a sealing unit in a complete shrink wrapping line. Their purpose is to tightly shrink the plastic film that has been placed around the products in either the bags, sleeves or tubes formed (depending on the style of sealer being used). This is done with the application of heat which reacts with the film to make it shrink down. The use of heat sometimes leads to these machines being called shrink ‘ovens’. Our shrink tunnels can also be supplied individually for a bagging operation.

Roller conveyor systems are deployed for presentation applications, which allows maximum airflow to the underside of the packs for high-quality, consistent results. The rollers rotate throughout in order to transfer the product along, meaning that the pack travels faster than the conveyor itself. This ensures that the underside of the pack is never in constant contact with the belt and prevents markings from being left on the film. This is a clear advantage over cheaper, mesh belt systems. When polythene is being used, we recommend the use of a heavy-duty steel mesh belt which provides pack stability, coupled with under belt and after pack coolers. Our upgraded steel-mesh belts are preferable to tunnel belts that are driven by friction because they will never stretch or need replacing − even after years of production.

Food Packaging

Cross-Linked Shrink Film

Our product portfolio includes solutions for even the most specialist of requirements, including our cross-linked extra tough, multi-layer shrink films. Cross-linked films have added strength compared to standard polyolefin films as they are created with an extra process during manufacture that bonds several layers of shrink film sheeting together, adding strength and durability. This process also offers the potential to input anti-fog additives, especially useful for some food applications. The cross-linked polyolefin shrink films from Bollore are the only polyolefin films of this type in the world which are LDPE-04 recycling certified.

Our BRX film is specially designed to wrap products that can easily distort due to its low shrink force properties and is particularly effective for thin products. Meanwhile, the high impact BZ shrink films are designed to be tough enough to wrap irregularly shaped items and resist puncture from packs which may have sharp edges. Both specifications are BRC approved from manufacturing through to storage and distribution.

Lidding Film

Welcome to LIDTEC®, our ultra-thin lidding films for tray sealing purposes. Dedicated to the fresh and frozen food industries, this top sealing film range from Bollore has been carefully constructed to get the best from your trayed products by extending their shelf lives and delivering exceptional presentation properties. The range incorporates a leak-proof film with hermetic seals for Modified Atmosphere Packaging applications, preventing contamination or spoilage and maintaining hygiene. A barrier option is also available offering oxygen permeability for foodstuffs that need to breathe. Designed for use with PE or PP sealants and a ring of glue, the LIDTEC® solutions create drum-tight packs without distortion from thinner gauge films (compared to laminate alternatives) with high gloss, anti-fog properties and three levels of shrinkage to meet your needs. Lidding films are ideal for whole foods and portions as well as cubed or sliced products.

B-NAT Bio-Based PE Polyolefin Shrink Film

For those who are keen to undertake an environmentally friendly approach to their packaging process, we are proud to say that we’re the first UK suppliers of the bio-based PE shrink film B-NAT®, which has been developed by Bollore. This ultra-thin film shrinks at the highest free shrink ratio of any film on the market for improved presentation and also seals and shrinks much faster and at considerably lower temperatures than any film currently available. This in itself has considerable environmental benefit as it delivers energy savings.

Polythene Transit Shrink Film

Durable and robust films to suit any transit or storage application - now with recycled content!

Perfect for heavy-duty packs or those destined for the carrier network, YPS can supply centrefold sheeting (CFS) and single wound sheeting (SWS) polythene, in any range of high to low slip material. All films can be supplied in either clear or coloured, including red, green, blue and yellow, tailored to your requirements. We can also provide film with additives such as anti-blocking or anti-static to suit specific production needs.

Poly Bags

Designed for use with our range of vertical bagging machines, our high-quality poly bags and mailers cater for a huge range of applications including e-commerce or order fulfilment. We can supply a number of blends from high clarity LDPE, anti-static, gamma-patient, VCI, non-scratch and breathable specifications. All of our standard and printed bag specifications are 100% recyclable and can be supplied with or without recycled content in the formulation. A choice of colours, thicknesses and widths are also available as are a number of value-adding features like easy-tear perforations, handle holes, vent holes, hang holes and return closing strips. Yorkshire Packaging Systems can supply BRC-certified, fully recyclable stretch wrap films to offer the utmost protection to palletised goods in transit or storage. Spare Parts

Spare parts for our machines are always readily available for fast delivery across the UK and Ireland, whether its everyday essentials like base rubber, tapes, bearings, sprockets and shafts, or less frequently required spares like motors, heater banks and sealing jaws. We maintain extensive stocks of these consumables in our workshop at all times, and our engineers carry most of the common wear parts with them in bulk for on-the-spot fixes. When economically viable, we also offer reconditioning or recoating services for many parts.

However, in our experience, we find that our customers may not always be entirely sure what spares they need.
