Wheelabrator Group announces Key Strategic Appointments

World market leading surface preparation specialist Wheelabrator Group is pleased to announce two senior appointments.

Wheelabrator Group’s president and chief executive officer Robert E. Joyce Jr., 45, has been elected to the company’s board of directors. With over 20 years experience, Mr Joyce was appointed president of Wheelabrator Group in 2003, before taking up the additional role of chief executive officer two years later.

Welcoming him to the board, chairman Craig Butcher, said: “Rob is a dynamic and enthusiastic individual whose dedication to the business has ensured a clear goal-orientated focus. Our shareholders greatly appreciate his hard work and we’re confident his contribution to the board will be key to our on-going development.”

In a related development, Andrew Carmichael, 43, previously international general manager with the company has been promoted to senior vice president for its wheel and air technology centres in Europe and Asia. His new role will involve leveraging Wheelabrator’s European technology and skill sets to drive growth in Asia, as well as optimising communication and co-ordination across the business

A long time specialist of the company, Mr Carmichael has accumulated almost 20 years with Wheelabrator, holding roles including group IT manager, European purchasing manager, UK managing director and European managing director for its OEM business.

He said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this exciting challenge working with the fastest growing economies in the world. This is a great opportunity to harmonise our skills across the business and is a very natural progression of my most recent role.”

Commenting on Mr Carmichael’s promotion, Mr Joyce, said: “This added responsibility is a reflection of Andrew’s contribution to the business and the importance of Asia to the company’s overall success. Andrew’s wealth of experience sets him in good stead for the challenges ahead.”

Employing more than 1,200 people in over 20 countries worldwide, Wheelabrator Group owns, designs, manufactures and provides wheelblast, airblast, wetblast and mass finishing equipment for surface preparation and cleaning. It also supplies washing, degreasing and ultrasonic cleaning systems, blast media, spares and consumables.
The group serves a wide range of sectors, including the aerospace and automotive industries, precision engineering and medical sectors, as well as the more traditional rail, shipyard and foundry industries.
