A guide on lift removal and the process

What is lift removal? Lift removal is the process of removing an old or unnecessary lift from a building. This involves the dismantling and disposal of the lift and associated components by experienced lift removal companies.
The removal of a lift can also be accompanied by a replacement if the requirement for building access remains. Typically this is the main reason for lift removal, namely to allow for an old or ‘decommissioned’ lift to safely be removed and replaced with a new modern equivalent.
Who undertakes a removal?
Lift removal is a complex task that requires specialised knowledge and equipment, so should only be undertaken by a lift removal company with the appropriate risk assessments. By using professional removal lift services, businesses can ensure that their lifts are removed safely and efficiently with minimal disruption to their operations.
The process typically involves assessing the lift, planning the removal process, preparing for any potential hazards and ensuring proper disposal of any hazardous materials. As part of this process, the chosen company will also make sure that all safety regulations and environmental requirements are followed.
How much does a lift removal cost?
The cost can vary greatly depending on the product type, travel and location. Typically you need to consider the following factors when evaluating:
What needs to be removed, the manufacturer and model
- The size and configuration of the lift? The larger and heavier the lift, the more it will cost
- Location and travel will influence the cost
- How will the equipment be disposed of?
- Whether additional permits or site restrictions are required?
- What are the alternatives to lift removal?
- In some cases, it may be possible to get a non-working lift back up and running by speaking with a lift company. If not possible, some lift companies offer a complete lift replacement service which will involve removal as part of the service.
A lift replacement does not require the lift to be from the same manufacturer or the same type of product! A lift company will undertake a site survey to advise of possible options based on travel and using the existing lift footprint wherever possible to minimise building work.
