Glasgow company helps reduce waste south of the border

A Glasgow company has had a hand in reducing waste over the border in Yorkshire.
Scottish Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, is currently hot dip galvanizing around 2,500 tonnes of steel which will be used at the Allerton Waste Recovery Park in North Yorkshire.The site uses state of the art technology to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by 90 per cent from the city of York and the rest of the county. Diverting the landfill will generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes and around 320,000 tonnes of residual household waste will be processed over 25 years.
The site is being constructed by BHC Ltd for waste management firm AmeyCespa, which has signed a £1.4billion PFI contract with the two councils in the area.
Scottish Galvanizers will be galvanizing the steel as part of the £320million project, with construction expected to be completed next year before commissioning and rigorous testing, with the site fully operational by early 2018.
Paul Tait, Commercial Manager at Scottish Galvanizers, explained: “This is an exciting project to be part of and will make a real difference to how waste is processed in North Yorkshire. Taking on a 2,500 tonne project is a big task but we’re confident it will all be ready in time and we can’t wait to see the site in action in the next 18 months or so.”
