CIWM membership underlines Mettler Toledos' sound waste management credentials

31 July 2009

Leading precision instruments specialist, Mettler Toledo has become an Affiliated Organisation of The Chartered Institute of Wastes Management, the professional body representing over 6,000 waste management organisations across the UK and overseas.

“As a premier name in industrial weighing and weighbridge technologies, we have placed particular focus on developing high quality, highly robust solutions for businesses working in the waste management industry. With its objectives of advancing the scientific, technical and practical aspects of waste management, and promoting education, training and research, the CIWM has an ethos very close to our own. As a CIWM Affiliate Organisation, we hope to be able to provide fellow CIWM members with even greater levels of information regarding waste handling, including the protection, conservation and improvement of the environment," a Mettler spokesman said.

Monitoring input and output of waste facilities
Today, waste is considered as a bi-product and a raw material and is accounted for just like an industrial product. METTLER TOLEDO technologies monitor both the input and output of many waste generating, consuming and storage facilities through approved bench, floor and vehicle weighbridge scales. The company’s instrumentation allows easy classification and accumulation of waste data, such as product type, origination and destination, for further accounting and processing.

OverDrive™ software
Waste products can also be processed, on either permanent or portable vehicle scales, using METTLER TOLEDO’s OverDrive™ vehicle scale management software. OverDrive™ operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week using a driver-operated terminal configured for both inbound and outbound transactions for any number of customers.

Flexible, configurable set-up
OverDrive™ easily accommodates the consolidation and distribution of data from multiple sites to a central location, allowing the customer to determine which data is available to these decentralised locations. Other industries generating bi-products, such as biomass, slag, construction bi-products and recyclables, can benefit from the system’s configurable set-up, which is flexible enough for many specific needs.

METTLER TOLEDO precision balances, scales, weigh modules and process measurement devices also assist in waste-water as well as fresh water purification systems.
