Access Control Systems
In today’s security-conscious environment, ensuring safety is a top priority for every responsible building owner, both to protect occupants and preserve the property itself. Installing an access control system can therefore be a smart and valuable investment in safeguarding people and assets. Typically, an access control system is electronic and composed of several interconnected components that work together to secure the premises. These components may include card readers, proximity sensors, keypads, swipe cards, and biometric devices, all of which communicate with locking mechanisms such as magnetic locks, electric locks, or electric strikes, among others.
High Quality & Secure Door Magnets
The term “magnets” is a broad descriptor for any product that incorporates a magnetic field. In the context of Architectural Hardware and Access Control, however, it specifically refers to locking devices designed for doors. While there are many variations, door magnets in the hardware sector are generally categorized into three main types: Face-to-Face Door Magnets, Shearlock Door Magnets, and the more recent addition to the market, Vortex Door Magnets.
High Security Electric Door Bolts
Electric door bolts are intended for use within access control systems to regulate entry and exit through specific doors and restricted areas. A wide range of electric bolts is available, differing in size, operation, and quality.
A quality electric door bolt typically provides a “deadlocking” function, meaning that once the bolt is electronically engaged, it cannot be retracted without another electronic operation. Some models also feature a key override, allowing mechanical operation in case of electronic failure. Electric bolts come in various sizes, including compact “mini bolt” versions for smaller applications. They are generally installed within the door, with a corresponding keep fitted to the frame, although alternative mounting options exist, such as surface-mounted housings and glass door brackets.
When selecting electric bolts, it is important to consult the supplier to ensure the product’s features and benefits match the intended application, particularly regarding the holding force of the unit.

High Security Electric Door Strikes
Electric door strikes were developed to provide controlled access while maintaining a secure environment for managing entry and exit through doors. Unlike traditional electric locks, an electric door strike is installed in the door frame rather than the door itself. It works in combination with a standard deadlatch to regulate and manage door traffic effectively.
Waterproof Keypads & Exit Switches
Alpro’s range of waterproof keypads, along with exit switches, are key components for access control systems. Tested to the IP68 standard, these keypads are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and are designed to operate other system elements such as electric door strikes, electric bolts, and various door magnets.
Alpro keypads feature either raised buttons for code entry or hard-anodized buttons integrated into the unit’s surface to deter vandalism. Some models include Braille to assist visually impaired users. Most keypads are backlit, ensuring usability in low-light conditions.
Installation options include surface or mortise mounting, depending on the application. Exit switches are also a practical addition to any access control setup. As the name suggests, pressing the exit switch breaks the circuit, allowing the door to be opened. Exit switches can likewise be surface or mortise mounted based on the specific requirements.
High Quality & Secure Door Hardware
The term “Door Hardware” refers to a wide range of products designed for use on various types of doors. Often referred to as Architectural Door Hardware, this category typically includes items such as surface and concealed door closers, locks, cylinders, pull and lever handles, panic hardware, electromagnets, electric strikes, and electric solenoid bolts.
Door Locks
Alpro’s range of locks and accessories is divided into three main categories: deadlocks, deadlatches, and cylinders. Alpro deadlocks feature a narrow design, primarily used in commercial aluminium doors. The lock allows the bolt to be engaged into a keep, and it cannot be retracted without the authorised key.
Deadlatches, on the other hand, are designed for use with various exit trims, such as paddle handles. Operating the handle retracts the latch bolt, allowing the door to open. The deadlatching feature ensures that when the door is closed, no object can be inserted between the door and frame to force the latch bolt, preventing unauthorised entry.
Panic Hardware
Panic hardware is an essential component in the design and installation of exit doors, providing a safe and efficient means of egress during emergencies. It is engineered so that a simple press on the touch or crash bar operates the door, allowing people to exit quickly and safely.
Door Lock Accessories
Alpro’s range of locks and accessories is divided into three main categories: deadlocks, deadlatches, and cylinders. Alpro deadlocks feature a narrow design, mainly used in commercial aluminium doors. The lock allows the bolt to engage into a keep, and it cannot be retracted without the authorised key.
Deadlatches, in contrast, are designed for use with exit trims such as paddle handles. Operating the handle retracts the latch bolt to open the door. The deadlatching feature ensures that when the door is closed, no object can be inserted between the door and frame to force the latch bolt, preventing unauthorised access.
Both deadlocks and deadlatches are available in a variety of backsets and cylinder configurations, with faceplates offered in multiple surface finishes. Alpro’s cylinder range complements its locks and comes in various finishes and keying options, allowing customers to select the system best suited to their specific application.
Transom Concealed Door Closers
A door closer is a mechanical device designed to automatically close a door after it has been used. They come in various types, including surface-mounted models and those concealed within the door and frame. Door closers serve multiple purposes across different applications.
Their primary function is to ensure doors close after use, but they also contribute to safety—for example, by preventing the spread of fire and smoke within a building. Door closers are available in models for manual or automatic operation. In compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and relevant fire safety standards, all door closers must be independently tested and certified to approved European standards.
