Switches & Routers

There are three principle devices that provide connectivity between one computer and another. Switches, routers and network hubs are all able to function as a data transfer device.

Network switches intelligently handle packets of data, determining where the packet needs to go and sending it to that computer only. Bandwidth isn't shared, making switches incredibly efficient. Network routers are different in that they connect multiple networks, bridging the gap and determining the best path for forwarding the packets. Routers also use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts.

Sarsen Technology works with a number of manufacturers that specialise in designing and manufacturing ultra high-speed digital recording and playback subsystems for scientific research, defence/intelligence, aerospace, radar simulator, astronomy and instrumentation applications. Peer to Peer protocols allow direct data streaming from data collection systems and sensors to storage devices without traditional host computer overhead.

The high speed recording and playback systems we supply help to overcome bottlenecks common to RAID and other traditional storage and recording environments. With sustained recording/playback rates up to 1.6GB/second, we provide solutions with off-the-shelf products as well as custom design for leading edge applications. These include standard COTS PCI, PCI Express and FPDP mezzanine boards as well as a comprehensive range of 19” Rackmount, CompactPCI and PXI system level solutions. These standard solutions can be customised for specific application requirements. Support for PCI Express (PCIe) allows quicker integration with your complex data gathering environments.

Computer data storage is a core function and fundamental component of computers. All computers require storage space and memory to run programs and store files. There are different types of memory and storage, and each has its own purpose.

The modules we supply are designed for embedded systems, offering highly-secure, rugged storage all within an industry-standard form factors. We can also provide modules with support for AES-256 XTS encryption and several military sanitisation protocols, including a fast clear, and solid-state SLC NAND flash technology.

We also support the latest in PXI Express storage capacity and slot flexibility. The DM series of storage modules from Conduant support standard rotating disks as well as mSATA and PCIe NVME M.2 SSDs in capacities ranging from one to eight terabytes.
Conduant provides a number of RAID and RAID-capable configurations, including the LTXe storage array. The LTXe and other Conduant RAID products offer exceptional performance and capacity for a wide variety of high performance data storage applications requiring a greater level of disk drive fault tolerance.

MIL-STD-1553

MIL-STD-1553 was first published as a U.S. Air Force standard in 1973, and first was used on the F-16 Falcon fighter aircraft. It was originally designed as an avionic data bus for use with military avionics, but has also become commonly used in spacecraft on-board data handling (OBDH) subsystems, both military and civil. It now is widely used by all branches of the U.S. military and has been adopted by NATO as STANAG 3838 AVS. MIL-STD-1553 is a military standard that defines the mechanical, electrical, and functional characteristics of a serial data bus

Sarsen Technology supplies and supports an extensive line of MIL-STD-1553 hardware, including multi-channel interface cards for most computer backplanes and real-time Ethernet converters. We also offer software development kits and APIs which allows users to quickly and reliably integrate a MIL-STD-1553 network to their application. Most of the cards/devices have signal capture and signal generation capability, and can both execute and pass the SAE-AS4111 5.2 protocol tests. All cards/devices are available with Dual Function (BC/BM or mRT/BM) for Full Function (BC/mRT/BM) configurations.
