Ultrascape Makes a splash in Folkestone Harbour Square!

08 December 2011

Ultrascape’s BS 7533 Compliant Mortar Paving System has been used to help re-develop Folkestone Harbour Square, transforming part of the market area into a water feature and focal point for the local area.

The new water feature is part of the general improvement program that is taking place at Folkestone Harbour. The former underused market area has been rejuvenated into an interactive and playful feature for visitors to the Folkestone Triennial and local residents alike.

Guy Hollaway Architects were commissioned as lead designers, working with Mark Hanton Studio Landscape Architects and The Fountain Workshop by Folkestone Harbour Company. The work was carried out by ALS engineers who delivered the comprehensive improvements to the harbour’s landscape.

Ultrascape’s Pro-Bed HS Fine Bedding Concrete in Bulk, Pro-Prime Slurry Primer and Flowpoint Rapid Setting Grout were used to lay the 500m² of natural stone setts and concrete paving slabs to meet the rigours of BS 7533 part 12.

Ultrascape Pro Bed HS fine bedding concrete was supplied in a 30 tonne bulk silo. Perfect for a scheme such as this where a high volume of bedding concrete was required at the touch of a button. It provides a bedding mortar that conforms to the strict requirements of BS 7533.

Ultrascape Pro-Prime Slurry Primer is specifically formulated to provide an exceptional bond of greater than 2N/mm² between all types of stone. It only requires the simple addition of water before it can be applied to the stone elements.

Ultrascape Flowpoint rapid setting flowable grout can be opened to foot traffic after only one hour due to its setting properties. It can be poured over paved areas and simply washed away with no risk of staining. It was particularly suitable for this application as the fountains have to withstand high pressure from the water jets on a daily basis.
